Newsletter Special Hobby - July 2016

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
We really cannot describe the last month as a quite one, at least not here at Special Hobby. Apart from 1/72 Mirage F.1B and 1/32 F2A-1 Buffalo model kits that had already been in distribution since early June, mid June saw the beginning of distribution of our long-time anticipated 1/32 Tempest Mk.V kit and it seemed like all hell broke loose suddenly here. The whole batch of SH72291 Mirage F.1B kits have almost been sold out, meaning we will have to prepare a next one if the modeller still keep asking for the kit. And we are quite happy to see now that the Tempest model is disappearing with the same speed, so we would like to encourage you to book your supply before it´s too late. You may add the Tempest to your July order of the new models. But, do not order SH72294 Mirage F.1CG anymore as it has been definitely sold out with no re-release ahead. And at present, there are only about hundred or so remaining kits of our SH72294 Mirage F.1CE/CH model, and once definitely sold out, this also will not be available again.

Before we update you on our July news, we just want to mention very briefly what you may expect further. Our models for late summer will be the 1/48 Bücker Bü 181, a limited batch of 1/48 Junkers Ju 88C-4 Night Intruder and also 1/32 Yakovlev Yak-3 Russian WW2 fighter aircraft and a limited re-edition of 1/48 Pfalz E.I WW1 fighter.

But let´s get now to a less distant future and allow me to bring you information on our anticipated July new kits.:
SPECIAL HOBBY PLASTIC MODELS

The Barracuda carrier-borne torpedo and dive bomber aircraft was already kitted by our company many years ago, in a shape of the then-standards for short-run models. Now we would like to bring you something really completely different. This new Barracuda kit is being made using three all-metal mould tooling blocks and its highly detailed grey styrene plastic parts will be accompanied by one clear parts sprue. The decal sheet caters for two options, both of which saw action over the Atlantic, one adorned with a striking nose-art. There will be also an option for the modeller to arm his Barracuda with either the torpedo slung under the fuselage or to use a 1600 lbs bomb. The model comes also with under-wing bomb racks.

The Barracuda was a shoulder-wing aircraft fitted with a set of large Youngman wing flaps mounted at the wing trailing edge and featured also rather unusually looking L-shaped undercarriage legs. The aircraft was capable of anti-shipping torpedo attacks, level and dive (up to 70 degrees angle) bombing  and was also used for long range reconnaissance duties.  Its electronic equipment consisted of an ASV IIN radar set. Although the Barracuda had primarily been designed as a torpedo bomber, the number of actual attack missions with this weapon was rather low and these took place only in Norwegian waters. The Barracuda was most of the time used in a dive bomber role, saw action during the Allied landing in Italy, carried out attack against German battleship Tirpitz (some of the planes being equipped with ex-US 1600 pound AP bombs) and also, taking off from either land bases or aircraft carriers,  flew missions against German maritime traffic off Norwegian shore and patrolled the sea against German U-boats.

The A-20 Boston was an American bomber plane, in fact one of the most successful military type of the war.  The VVS and AVMF,  or Soviet Air Forces and Naval Aviation, acquired almost three thousands of this aircraft, making them the second largest users of the type after the US Army Air Force. In the Soviet Union, it soon became clear that during the harsh winter conditions on the East Front, the rear gunners suffered far too much from the elements and also that the low-calibre machine gun was not up-to the standards for the battle field. Therefore, it was decided to equip the Soviet A-20 bombers with UTK-1 type turrets and sometimes also with different armament. The new turret changed the side profile of the plane rather dramatically.

In our reissue of the Soviet A-20 bomber, the  decal sheet caters for two machines, one of which carried White 20 number and was flown with its original US camouflage scheme with repairs done using local-made paints and was also embellished with a caricature of the Nazi fuhrer Adolf Hitler. The other plane was Yellow 5 flying in British camouflage also with paint scheme repairs.

This already sold out model is still required by modellers so we have decided to make it available again in a shape of re-release.  Thanks to our colleagues from Australia, we have been able to enhance the level of detail to some extent by adding  resin interior components, also designed a new and corrected decal sheet, instructions and camouflage schemes. The up-dated instruction leaflet is now printed in full colour.

Four interesting decal options, injected clear parts, four grey styrene sprues, a set of resin parts and a PE-fret, all that is a re-edition of the Australian fighter kit, and possibly the most famous of all Australian aircraft ever built and flown.

Also have to mention a separately sold set of pre-coloured etched metal parts available under cat.no. K48003.

This neatly detailed resin set offers the modeller the option to have the wing centre section fairing panels open and the Pegasus turbofan powerplant resin replica visible inside the fuselage. The set comes also with the vectoring exhaust nozzles and the removed fairing panels.

This detailed resin set brings the modeller a new cockpit tub, side consoles and a control column and also the Martin Baker Mk.9 hot seat with the safety harness. Tailored to fit the Airfix model.

AFFILIATION: UK / modern
Three resin WW2 German soldier figures are provided in this set, two of whom have separate heads and arms, the third being moulded in one piece.

AFFILIATION: Germany/ WW II
A German soldier figure that has been patterned to fit the new Tamiya model.  The soldier is pushing his machine, a sight rather common during spring or autumn on the Eastern front, where everything including motorcycles got mired in almost bottomless mud. This figure makes an ideal accompaniment to your dioramas.

The recent CMK 1/48 M29 Weasel resin kit has proved a huge success, and now we have created two resin figures to add a human element to this lovely model. The first of them, the driver's body and legs are sculpted in one piece along with his seat, with separate head and arms so that he can be posed.

AFFILIATION: USA/ WW II
The second of the M29 figures is the gunner with his M2 machine gun. Although the M29 was intended as reconnaissance rather than a fighting machine, some of them did receive armament in the shape of a 50cal Browning M2 machine gun on a pivoting mount. The figure comes with separate head and arms, with the Browning crisply moulded. It could also be used in other vehicles with a similar mount.

AFFILIATION: USA/ WW II
Figures 129-F48 310 and 129-F48 311 are designed for this model cat. number 129-8049.
The set contains two half figures, a driver and a gunner for the Sherman tank. Both of them come  with separate heads. The figures can be posed in the tank´s open hatches. Although patterned to fit a Sherman kit, they could be used as well with any other vehicle based on the Sherman chassis.

AFFILIATION: USA/ WW II
A detailed figure of a US Sherman tank commander. Designed to be posed in an open hatch, the figure comes with separate arms and head.

AFFILIATION: USA/ WW II
Detailed resin exhausts tailored to fit the new Special Hobby kit. Their advantage over the kit exhausts is that they need not be assembled from halves and also provide more detail.

AFFILIATION: UK/ WW II
The set offers the modeller two underwing fuel tanks cast together with the pylons and stabilizing fins. They will fit any kit of the French Vautour post-war jet aircraft in this scale.

AFFILIATION: France/ modern
Exquisitely detailed resin main undercarriage wheels with diamond tread and separate hubs, prepared for any kit of this famous WW2 American fighter plane.

AFFILIATION: USA/ WW II
The set comprises two flat-shaped 200 US gal external fuel tanks and their attachment lugs. These tanks were usually used in pairs under the wings of the P-47, fitted to B-10 shackles that were typical for this tank installation. It was also possible to have the P-47 fitted with only one such tank, this time under a B-7 shackle on the centreline. However, on rare occasions the P-47 was also seen carrying the tanks in all three positions
